The Birchwood Racing Team is a Twin Cities-area racing team and cycling club dedicated to the positive experiences of cycling. Our goal is to promote cycling as a healthy way to be active and involved with our community. Birchwood is a committed group of cyclists brought together by our shared love of good food and good bikes.
We are racers working for our teammates in a local crit.
We are riders gathering for a casual spin and coffee on a Sunday morning.
We are mountain bikers calculating the best line to rail a berm.
We are triathletes jumping from water to bike to shoes.

birchwood races and rides
The Birchwood Bike Team sponsors 2 races during the season. The Blakeley Road Race in Belle Plaine, MN and Minnesota State Cyclocross Championships. We also have 2 open rides with the team – the Sunday Coffee Ride and the Tuesday Women’s Ride. See details below.

Sunday Coffee Ride : 9am
The ride leaves from the Birchwood Cafe (3311 East 25th Street) at 9am and is open to the riding public. You must wear a helmet, and the pace is normally 15-17mph. Road bikes required.
Tuesday Women’s Ride
We offer a women-only ride that is open to non-members the first Tuesday of each month (May - September). The ride leaves from the Birchwood Cafe at 6pm. You must wear a helmet and be on a road bike.

Membership in the Birchwood Racing Team comes with responsibilities and benefits that are detailed below. Before you consider joining, please read through this page carefully and send any questions to membership@birchwoodbiketeam.com.

Membership dues are $65 per year and new members are required to purchase a “Gold” or “Silver” level jersey from our clothing partner Podiumwear.
On receipt of your completed application, you will be sent information on how to log into the Birchwood Team Store to pay your dues and purchase your jersey as well as any other clothing items you may want. Discounts are awarded after the first year to members who staff various team duties.
Ride in a respectful, safe, and legal fashion. Cyclists have all the same rights and responsibilities of motorized vehicles in Minnesota. Birchwood Racing Team members are highly visible and a public presence for our sponsors in particular and cyclists in general. Keep the roads safe for all users by minding your responsibilities.
Team members should wear a helmet on all rides and your team kit on a regular basis.
Maintain positive relations and interactions with motorists. In conflict situations, cyclists almost never win. It’s better to find a calm and safe resolution or contact authorities if that’s not possible.
Participate in keeping our team functioning at a high level by dedicating time and energy to team events, rides, and our annual race. Possibilities include participating in team administration, staffing our road race, leading regular team rides, organizing or teaching a clinic or social events, and more.
Belonging to a group of people who are passionate about cycling at many different levels and in many different disciplines: road racing, criteriums, time trials, triathlons, cyclocross, and nordic skiing.

Our members are active during all four of Minnesota’s seasons. Spring finds many of us riding the spring “classics” road races, criteriums, and early season time trials. Summer brings more crits and TTs, with the addition of duathlons, triathlons, and mountain bike events. As summer winds down, our cyclocross contingent begins practicing for the fall racing season.

The team started as a bike racing team and that’s where the largest percentage of our members dedicate their time. Our goal has always been to ride and race as a team for the team. Victory for one is a victory for all and we take as much pride in our teammates’ success as we do in our individual achievements. Team members are involved in the various disciplines within cycling: road racing, criteriums, time trials, mountain biking, and cyclocross.
all seasons
Our team has a variety of riders and racers that are dedicated to being on the bike as much as possible. From gravel races to winter fat biking; from casual coffee rides to sweat-fest hill rides; from Spring road races to late season cyclocross – if there is a way and time to ride a bike, there is someone on the team out there having fun.
women’s
The Birchwood bike Team has a number of talented women riders and races. We currently have women racing in Crits, Road Races, TT’s, MTB, Cyclocross and Tri’s.
Tuesday nights are the scheduled women’s ride with the first Tuesday of every riding month open to non-members and members alike. The ride leaves at 6pm from the Birchwood Cafe. Helmet are required.

We have an active group of men and women racing in everything from small sprint tris to the Ironman. There are lots of posts on our boards for training rides, swims and runs.
